ProVocation Fellows

The ProVocation Project is opening the application process for the Provocation Fellows component of the project.  The ProVocation Fellows are a cohort of undergraduates who are involved in leadership positions of campus ministries and churches and who wish to discern further their vocational calling. Fellows will be appointed for a one-year period and, in addition to participating in leadership training and reflection within their ministries, will engage in regular conversations and vocational discernment exercises over the course of the academic year.

Applications to be a ProVocation Fellow are due on Tuesday, April 4, 2017. Required materials should be sent as email attachments to the interim director of the ProVocation Project, Kyle Meyaard-Schaap (

Expectations for the Fellows include:

  • designating a mentor to encourage leadership reflection;
  • meeting with the Fellows cohort at least three times per semester – twice in group discussions and once per semester as part of a ProVocation luncheon;
  • attending one weekend and/or one alternative spring break vocational discernment retreat. The alternative spring break retreat will be held at the Abbey of Gethsemani, a Trappist monastery in central Kentucky.  The weekend retreat will be held at St. Gregory’s Abbey in Three Rivers, Michigan.
  • writing reflective essays at the conclusion of each semester on insights gained into vocation through leadership and discussion.

Expenses for the meetings, luncheons, retreats, and other required events will be covered by the ProVocation Project.  Each fellow will receive a stipend of $500 ($250  per semester) for their participation in the program.

For the 2017-18 academic year, we anticipate appointing a cohort of eight to ten Fellows.
